Norwegians in Estonia, 26. Sept – 02. Oct. 2011

We went from Stryn to Oslo with the night bus. We arrived on Gardermoen on Tuesday morning. The plain to Tallinn took one hour. When we came to Tallinn we met some of the Estonian teachers, and they showed us the beautiful city. We saw a lot of churches and old buildings. In the evening we took a four hour long bus-trip to Viljandi. We arrived in Viljandi late, and met our host-families.

Wednesday:On Wednesday we were at the school. We followed their schedule and were in their classes. The different things with the Norwegian and the Estonian schools were that they changed classroom all the time, and 1.-12. Grade went on the same school there. In Norway we split it in three different schools. When the school ended, we followed our hosts home before we met the other ones, and went to Viljandi. The Estonian students showed us a little part of Viljandi. In the evening we ate pizza and went to bowl. Unfortunately the bowling was taken, so we played some billiard instead. Two of the Estonian students had a dance practice, and since we wanted to see then dance, we all followed them on it to watch them dance.
Thursday: We went to east-Estonia to visit the Kothla underground mining museum. The guide spoke very bad English, so we didn’t understand so much of what he said. The mine different from other mines because it dug oil-shale from both above under ground at the same time. The sorting of oil-shale from limestone happened by hand work without any machines. Men worked mainly under ground and women in the sorting tower. We drove with an underground-train that they used to transport the stones. The trains brought us to the lunch. We had miner’s lunch. After the lunch, we went up to the surface. Outside the museum it was time to go on a car safari. During the safari the drivers stopped the cars, and told us about the limestone and ash-mountains. It was so funny to drive the cars! On the way back to Viljandi, we visited the Narva Alexander’s cathedral. When we stood on the top-floor, we could see the border to Russia. After that, we went home. The trip was quite long, so when we came home to Viljandi we went straight to bed.
Friday: We went to the University City Tartu. We went to a restaurant on one of the hotels there. We ate dinner and dessert. After that we walked around in the city, and the guide told us about the attractions there. When we were good and feed we went to the science centre AHHAA. A guide guided us around the centre, but some of the Estonian girls asked us if we wanted them to show us the coolest things. Look at the pictures. After some hours on the AHHAA-centre we went to the centre of Tartu. The guide showed us some of the universities and a sightseen trough the town. We took a bus to a shopping-centre, and saw a 4D-movie about space rally.
Saturday: Everybody gathered on the school, before we went to a house in nowhere. We had some activities there about the sun-system and electricity. We learned about how much electricity we used in different things and how we can use the sun to get electricity. We went to a national park. While the Estonian teachers made the food ready, we walked a trip in the forest. We saw the beaver houses. When we came back to the bus, we had a lovely picnic. We went home to Viljandi after the picnic. The Estonian girls took us out for some shopping and showed us the town. In the evening we all gathered at Sirelin and Kristina’s place. It was our last night in Estonia, so we wanted to take advantage of it.

Sunday: It was so sad to say goodbye! We took the bus to Tallinn and a plane to Oslo, Gardermoen. We shopped a lot on the taxfree before we ate pizza. While we were waiting for the night-bus, we found a big metal toy plane that we played with. We got many friends because many children wanted to play with us.We got a bus for ourselves because the other ones were full. We came home early in the morning, and we were exhausted.
